Credera’s participation in the Cancer Research Winter 10KM Challenge

On Sunday 7th February 2021 and for the fifth consecutive year, our running club took part in the Cancer Research 10KM virtual Winter Run challenge and together have raised an incredible £3,660 in sponsorship. This is a new record for the company and one that we are extremely proud to have achieved. Our runners overcame the personal challenges of lockdown to complete 1,619km of training throughout the cold winter months and completed the final 10KM in the face of Storm Darcy. Many of the attributes required to train for a long-distance run are similar to those that employees of Credera carry and apply in their everyday work – it takes motivation, commitment, and a true determination to succeed.

Through the use of technology our team adapted, came together, and carried on important traditions that will benefit our community. Here is what our colleagues have to say on their participation in the event:

-Patrick Achermann, Managing Consultant:

“Throughout my training, there was a great amount of supportive chatter across the various channels that we use for Credera’s run club, including Yammer, Strava, and WhatsApp. Training for the Winter Run provided me with some much-needed structured activity outside of the house during lockdown, as well as an event to look forward to. The event itself was great fun!”

-Helen Kilvington, Chief People Officer:

“I started my Couch to 5K during the first lockdown and have my colleague Donal Smith to thank for making me believe that I could achieve it, having never run previously in my life. I saw the team get together for the Winter run and was very late to join, having only just been able to run 10K. The weather was awful, but knowing that I was raising money for such an important cause was enough to get me out into the snow. Credera folk are some of the most supportive people I have ever met and I'm grateful to be able to support others in fundraising and completing the run.”

-Hamad Ali, Engineer:

“I had been running for a number of years before joining Credera so I was excited to learn that I could share a personal hobby of mine with other like-minded colleagues. One of my personal goals for this year was to run a 10K race for charity, so it was great that I was able to achieve this through Credera and raise money for a really worthwhile cause.”

Self-managed clubs at Credera

Taking on a challenge and seeing it through to a successful outcome is at the heart of how we work. We do this for our clients, in our internal contributions, and in our social activities. This passion shines bright when we come together in teams and reach for the same target. We take genuine pleasure in the success of the team and especially in those individuals who, through tenacity and belief, overcome challenges, remain focused, and exceed expectations.

With this in mind, it is no surprise that at Credera, we have several successful self-managed social clubs - including a running club, football club, climbing, games club, and a reading club - that have continued bringing our people together virtually, even when we are apart.

Cara Bills, our self-managed clubs lead, shared her thoughts on what sets Credera’s self-managed clubs apart:

“In spite of the challenges presented during the past year, it has been great to see a number of our self-managed clubs continuing to run on a virtual basis and helping the company to maintain its all-important sense of togetherness. Our self-managed clubs are all about bringing our people together based on their shared interests and enabling people to pursue their passions, learn new skills, and connect with other like-minded individuals. As a member of Credera’s run club and in the other clubs that we offer to our staff, I have seen first-hand how our clubs reflect in many ways the culture that we foster at Credera – they are all about supporting one another, building a community, and connecting over a genuine, shared love of what we do.”

We would like to thank each and every one of our supporters for contributing to the amount that we have raised for such an important and worthwhile cause.
