We talked to James Ryan, an Engineer at Credera, about why Credera has been a great career choice.
What attracted you to Credera?
I had the chance to work alongside Credera employees in my previous role and was particularly impressed by their technical skills and pragmatism. As I learned more about the company culture and the approach they took to engineering, I knew it was somewhere I wanted to work.
What’s an average day at Credera for you?
I spend most of my time writing software to solve complex problems for our clients, but Credera ensures that engineers also have dedicated time to contribute to open source projects, study towards professional certifications, mentor junior colleagues and work on internal projects. The variety of work means that I’m constantly challenged to learn something new, increasing the breadth and depth of my software engineering skills.
What’s your favourite thing about working for Credera?
Easy – the people! Everyone is very friendly, great to work alongside and extremely knowledgeable. There is also a large range of social events and societies that really bring the company together and I have been amazed at just how quickly I’ve managed to get to know everyone.
What’s your favourite benefit we offer?
The dedicated training budget has been excellent, as it has allowed me to take control of my own learning and development. It has allowed me to broaden my cloud knowledge and study towards professional certifications. The ability to pick a laptop of my choice was also fantastic, as having a high-end laptop is very important to me as a software engineer.
How does Credera motivate you to give your best?
Working alongside highly motivated and talented colleagues on interesting problems is incredibly motivating. It’s very satisfying when we solve tricky problems for clients and they appreciate the work we’ve done for them. Credera is also excellent at recognising high performers, with monthly awards for people who have demonstrated our values and regular opportunities for career progression.
What advice would you give recent hires?
Talk to everyone and get involved. There are so many interesting opportunities, both work and social, that are only a conversation away! Credera is very open to new ideas and is constantly striving to adapt and improve, so your thoughts and input are always welcome.
