We asked Engineer Sophia Bell why she chose to join us to further her engineering career.
What attracted you to Credera?
Quite a few things actually! The reputation of the company and the way it supports its staff really appealed to me – all of the people that I spoke to prior to joining only had positive things to say about the management and staff of Credera. I was also excited by the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects, from client work to internal IP, as it would allow me to expand upon my knowledge whilst helping me to develop in my software engineering career. All in all, Credera ticked all of the right boxes for me.
What’s an average day at Credera for you?
Four days a week, I spend my time developing software for our client and helping them to realise their ambitions. I work closely with the other members of my team, whether they are based in the UK or further afield, and spend the majority of my day writing code, problem-solving with colleagues, and researching and developing the use of exciting new technologies. On Fridays, I will usually be spending my time working on internal projects or studying. No two days are ever the same!
What’s your favourite thing about working for Credera?
Working for a company that really values, trusts, and supports its employees has been wonderful. Credera are incredibly transparent and open about all aspects of the business, which is not something that you see every day. That, and the people. Everyone at Credera is friendly, willing to get stuck in, and incredibly helpful. Having joined the company during the pandemic and worked remotely ever since, I have never felt isolated from my team or the company. This is solely down to the personability of all those who work here and the effort that Credera make to let you know that you are valued and appreciated.
What’s your favourite benefit that we offer?
Apart from the very generous equipment budget, I was pleased to learn that we are given the opportunity to take two CSR days during the year. I have since joined the environmental pillar at Credera to promote rewilding volunteer opportunities for staff and have taken part in a school session to encourage software engineering as a career for young BAME women.
How has Credera helped you grow in your professional career?
In the short time since joining, I have not only been given the chance to work with a plethora of talented and experienced engineers, but in a wide variety of technologies and projects as well. I have also been trusted to represent Credera in exciting new areas of growth, be that in the type of engineering that we provide or with new clients in new markets. Coupled with the yearly, dedicated training budget provided to employees, I feel that I have been given everything that I need to really develop and grow as an Engineer.
What advice would you give recent hires?
If there is an area of the company that you are interested in getting involved in, if you are stuck on a problem, or if you simply wish to have a chat, please do get in touch. Everyone is just a message away, and you will struggle to find a more open and welcoming group of people.
